The forthcoming
ESISA embedded bus standard, being
created and maintained by
cefischer solutions, is an extended version
of the well known ISA bus designed to be stackable for eliminating
the need of a backplane like PC/104 but, unlike PC/104
ESISA
comes with many new features:
- Simple implementation of 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit ESISA modules
all via two DIN 41612 connectors for making high reliable module
stacks.
- Backplane and slot virtualisation by Virtual Slot Numbering (VSN) system.
- Easy an efficient VSN based module stack auto configuration.
- Up to 8 modules per stack, up to 8 bus masters per stack.
- Realtime application aware bus arbitration protocols.
- Bus master burst access cycles with data rates up to 33 MBytes/s.
- Only low nominal bus clock frequency of 8 MHz requried.
- Support of restartable bus transactions after power failures.
- ISA bus compatibility allows for simple add-on module interface circuitry.
- Enhanced DMA features for implementing low cost slave modules
without complex bus master capabilities.
- PCI-ESISA bridging included in specification.
- No references to out-of-print publications.
With ESISA, the evolution of the ISA bus is still ongoing. Explore it
